About the gloss boss...

The dream and can-do of gloss boss, founder and CEO Theo Kogan.

Theo saw something missing in the marketplace. She couldn't find a gloss that would stay on, that had bright and beautiful colors that would not bleed or run and a gloss that would have good -for -your-lips ingredients.

A gloss fit for rockstars and celebrities but made for real women of every skin tone. A gloss with tons of pigment and stay-put power that shines brighter than all the rest. (With no parabens, no gluten and no animal testing).

Theo comes from straight up DIY mentality. She went to “The Fame School” AKA Fiorello Laguardia High School in NYC for Art. As it seems to happen often in Art School, she and her friends, just for fun, started an all female band called Lunachicks. At their second show ever they were discovered by Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and soon after signed to a record label in the UK,  Their first tour was in the UK opening for Dinosaur Jr.

Lunachicks had a strong career of over 10 years and toured with The Go-Go’s, Marilyn Manson, Rancid, The Offspring, NOFX and No Doubt to name a few. They played shows with Green Day, Joan Jett, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, The Butthole Surfers, and their sisters from the west coast L7.

The Lunachicks made it all happen with blood sweat and tears, touring all over the world until they were ready for a break. Sleeping on floors, in vans, scary abandoned asylums, and youth hostels.

In between touring Theo was a babysitter by day and was a part of the NY club scene by night. She worked hosting, singing, MC’ing and most of all go go dancing in gay and anything-goes Rock clubs.  She was a model signed by Wilhelmina Models and did runway, advertising and editorial. She walked the runways for Betsy Johnson, Patricia Field and many others.

Theo studied acting with the amazing Robert Wallach and did commercials and performed in films by Martin Scorcese, Jane Campion and Ben Stiller as well as a plethora of smaller cult and indie films. In the early to mid ‘nths, Theo then had a band with her husband Sean Pierce, and two other very tall guys called Theo & The Skyscrapers, notably tongue and cheek because the skyscrapers were all very tall men, 6’6’ and up.

At some point during an avante- grade performance she was doing around halloween, Theo had a spark of an idea that turned into plan there was no turning back from. In classic DIY nature she called a friend, booked a plane ticket to LA and started the journey to creating Armour Beauty. This punk rock, tattooed woman made it happen against all odds on a shoe string budget with no investors, one small business loan and the drive of an athlete. She fought like life depended on it to be seen and heard above the blur of lip products. And so Armour made it many most major magazines, tons of blogs and stores such as Lord & Taylor, Ricky’s NYC and UO online .

With a true entrepreneurial attitude Theo’s motto which is tattooed on her leg is: “Leap and the net will appear”. Her message to everyone, especially women and young women is: You CAN do anything. All you need is a dream and a jump into that void to get started.
